Who would have known a month or so ago that ‘teamwork’ would mean much more and require extra effort than ever before? While we’ve always known what it is, we’ve been pushed outside our normal teamwork bubble into another bubble whilst trying to maintain a cohesive and collaborative crew and still deliver a high level of service to our customers. We want to share a little bit about how we are doing it.
Creating a culture of teamwork
Here at 3rd Arm we pride ourselves on ensuring our clients’ work is completed accurately and on time. One of the reasons we are able to achieve this is due to the culture we have created. In the office we worked within close vicinity of each other, now with being remote we have to make more of an effort to stay connected so every day we have a virtual catch-up. Trying to foster a bit of fun we often start with a quiz or have a theme for each meeting but more importantly it’s a good daily ‘check-in’ with each other where everyone is encouraged and has the opportunity to share, offload and listen.
Every member of our team knows to ask for help, especially when they are overwhelmed and to also offer help when their tasks are lighter than others. This team culture has enabled 3rd Arm to keep up to date with all tasks and continue to be able to meet our client needs in these challenging times.
Technology has a huge part to play in teamwork
We use many different technology platforms and applications to ensure that all team members can access and process client information using the systems and procedures we’ve set up. If for example, a member is away on leave or just needs a hand, we have well documented procedures and processes in place which any of the team can take over, to ensure a smooth transition for our clients. The apps we find invaluable for collaboration day to day can be found in “Our Favourite Apps” series on our website under News and Tips.
Staff – there is no ‘I’ in Team
Within our 3rd Arm team, we have a varying degree of expertise, experience and strengths. We play to those qualities by having team training sessions, charging someone as the ‘go to’ in their specialty area and providing support and mentoring to those that need it. This variation means that there is always someone to turn to, there’s always something to learn and share.
Teamwork rewards
While monetary rewards are great, we enjoy team incentives as well. You know what they say – “a team that plays together stays together”. We often have team dinners and pampering sessions for a ‘job well done’ and/or to celebrate milestones. It helps us form better bonds with each other by allowing us time to socialise and discuss life outside of work.
Teamwork is essential for a business to run smoothly and in this current environment it’s never felt more important. Embrace the change, your team and here’s to new and exciting ways of coming together.
